Man sentenced to 21 to 42 years in teen girlfriend's slaying

MILFORD, Pa. (AP) — A man has been sentenced to 21 to 42 years in prison in the slaying of his teenage girlfriend, whose body was found buried on a llama farm in northeastern Pennsylvania. Twenty-seven-year-old Sky McDonough of Milford was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier to third-degree murder and custodial interference. Prosecutors in Pike County said 17-year-old Leanna Walker left home with the McDonough in April 2016, and they camped in several locations, including the Milford Township llama farm where he used to work.

2 firefighters die in house fire, body found outside

WEST PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa (AP) — Pennsylvania State Police say two firefighters died responding to a house fire where a body was found, while two people who lived in the home got out safely. The firefighters who died were identified as members of the New Tripoli Fire Company, Assistant Fire Chief Zachary Paris, 36, and Marvin Gruber, 59, Trooper David Beohm said. The body of another person was discovered outside the house on the property, which sits on a large plot of land in West Penn Township near Tamaqua in Schuylkill County.

Annual National Pike Days held in Somerset Co.

A long-time Somerset County tradition wrapped up in the southern part of the county Friday. National Pike Days was held in Addison Borough this week. The event celebrates the national road and at one time even included covered wagons. The Addison Volunteer Fire Department showed third graders from local schools some of their equipment, from the department's oldest apparatus, an 1890 chemical cart, to its newest piece of equipment: a newly acquired brush truck.

While thousands were expected, rain and wind kept larger crowds from gathering, some 400 chanted pro-Palestinian slogans and voiced criticism of the Israeli and American governments as they marked a painful present — the war in Gaza — and past — the exodus of some 700,000 Palestinians who fled or were forced from what is now Israel when the state was created in 1948.
