Annual Labor Day tractor parade honors 6-year-old boy killed in Cambria Co. DUI crash

Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — In Cambria County, the fourth annual Ed Dumm Memorial tractor parade was held Monday in Nicktown. This year, the parade was held in honor of Vincent "Vinny" Rietscha IV, a local 6-year-old boy who was killed in a DUI crash earlier this year. We spoke with Vinny’s father about how his family is honored to have the community's support. Organizers say close to 100 tractors took part in the parade.

DuBois chosen for 'Main Street America's' pilot program to enhance local entrepreneurship

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — DuBois officials and business owners are preparing for a new national pilot program the city has been selected for. "Main Street America" officials will be in DuBois Wednesday to explain "equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem." "They will be meeting with local leaders and business owners in the community, discussing this program, how it benefits the community, how it will benefit all the startup, brand new entrepreneurs that are trying to find a place within the community.

MLB extends draft league through 2030; State College Spikes 'excited' for future

Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that it is extending the draft league through the year 2030. The league was created in 2021 following the MLB's realignment, which eliminated 40 teams from being minor league affiliates. Locally, the State College Spikes were among those teams that were no longer affiliated with a major league club. “We are excited that the MLB Draft League will continue to offer opportunities for up-and-coming players through 2030,” said Scott Walker, Spikes President & General Manager.

Steelers sign veteran linebacker Kwon Alexander to 1-year deal

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed free agent linebacker Kwon Alexander to a one-year deal. Alexander, who is entering his 9th season in the NFL, is coming off of a breakout year with the New York Jets. He has played in 95 career games, recording 12.5 sacks, 8 interceptions, 11 forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. Alexander was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015 and has also previously played for the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers.

A glaring example of Pennsylvania's senior care funding gap

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, a personal care home offers housing, meals and assistance with medications and personal care tasks to seniors or people with physical, behavioral health, or cognitive disabilities who are unable to care for themselves but do not need nursing home or medical care. The Atrium, a nonprofit personal care center in downtown Johnstown was doing just that until Monday, when a press release was sent out stating that the center will be closing permanently, displacing 54 senior residents and resulting in over 40 employees losing their jobs, all in 60 days’ time.
