WASHINGTON (TND) — Inflation slowed for the first time in 2024 last month after a hot start that pushed back the timeline for the Federal Reserve to begin cutting rates and raising concerns about prices staying higher for longer and requiring even higher interest rates to bring it under control.
The decline was modest, falling to 3.4% from 3.5% the year prior. On a month-to-month basis, prices increased by 0.3%. Core prices, which strip out volatile food and energy categories, reached the lowest level since April 2021 at 3.
Red Lobster abruptly closed nearly 50 restaurants Monday blindsiding customers and restaurant employees. Restaurant liquidator, TAGeX Brands, revealed that it is auctioning off kitchen items and furniture from the shuttered locations as part of its "largest restaurant equipment auction ever."
Inventory being auctioned off includes kitchen equipment, furniture, tables and chairs. Red Lobster locations in Jacksonville, Orlando and Buffalo are listed as closed on theirwebsite. In April the company weighed a possible Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing to restructure its debt.

Three players with ties to west-central Pennsylvania got drafted.
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Ferndale High School graduate Trey McGough in the 24th round. McGough is a left-handed pitcher. He played three seasons at Mount St. Mary's, during his college career.
Another Pennsylvania organization drafted a local product. The Philadelphia Phillies selected Central Cambria graduate Tyler Adams in the 27th round.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Centre County say a Woodward-area woman pleaded "no contest" Friday afternoon in the stabbing death of her former boyfriend last April.
Investigators say Brittany Guisewhite, 28, was accused of stabbing Robert Farwell during an argument at her home along Mountain Ave.
Guisewhite made repeated claims of self-defense, as well as claims of PTSD and Battered Woman Syndrome.
Officials say Guisewhite faces up to eight years in state prison as part of the plea bargain.
