Thousands return to Centre County for Grange Fair, Penn State classes as COVID spikes

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — With the recent rise in new COVID cases - what will happen when thousands of people soon show up in one county in our region? In the geographic center of Centre County, Centre Hall, it is Grange Fair time again. Campers began moving in this past weekend. It’s one of two sites in Centre County where the population is going to increase significantly in the next few days.

2 PSU students have coronavirus after studying abroad; neither was on campus

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Two Penn State students who were studying abroad this semester have tested positive for coronavirus, the university announced Thursday. Penn State Media Strategy Manager Heather Robbins confirmed the cases to 6 News. Robbins says neither of the students has been on campus. One of the students is back in the United States with family and is asymptomatic, Robbins says. “The other individual is still abroad, and we are doing whatever we can to support the student, who we understand is feeling better,” said Robbins.

A year without Grange Fair

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) - The Centre County Grange and Encampment Fair was scheduled to begin its 146th annual event this week, but those plans came to a halt because of COVID-19. The cancellation is impacting the local economy, as well as the people who look forward to it every year. Altoona man arrested, charged in connection to shots fired incident near sports bar

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Altoona police say they have arrested a man in connection to a shots fired incident that happened last week within the city. Police say 26-year-old Fa arah marke Robinson allegedly fired a handgun at a group of people in a parking lot near Zach's Sports Bar along 58th Street and 6th Avenue. They say Robinson fired the gun during an altercation early Thursday morning, but didn't immediately specify what led to the altercation.

Child, 8, killed in two-vehicle crash in Indiana County, PSP says

INDIANA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Pennsylvania state police say an 8-year-old child was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash in Indiana County. Troopers say the crash occurred just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of West Philadelphia Street Extension and Route 22 in East Wheatfield Township. Police say the driver of a Chevrolet SUV, identified as a 62-year-old Armagh woman, was reportedly stopped at a posted stop sign at the intersection and was attempting to turn onto Route 22 westbound.
