Alleged killer enters guilty plea for murders of two women

BUTLER TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WOLF) — UPDATE (9/8/21): Harold David Haulman III has entered a guilty plea this afternoon. Haulman was given two life sentences without parole for the murders of 26-year-old Erica Shultz and 25-year-old Tianna Phillips. By entering a guilty plea, he was able to avoid the death penalty in this case. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UPDATE (5/14/21): 42-year-old Harold David Haulman III was escorted into magisterial district court today and was charged with a second homicide.

Altoona Area School District furloughs 64 special education aides

ALTOONA, Pa (WJAC) – The Altoona Area School District is laying off dozens of employees after moving to virtual learning for the rest of the semester. The district’s school board voted Monday to temporarily furlough 64 special education aides. Superintendent Dr. Charles Prijatelj said it didn't make sense to keep them on the payroll. “It’s not a question of wanting these employees, it’s not a question of not valuing these people, it’s a question of we have to have work for them to do,” he said.

AT&T probes sudden outage as cybersecurity concerns rise

WASHINGTON (TND) — AT&T customers were left experiencing outages Thursday morning prompting an investigation into a possible cyberattack. Cambria Heights Middle School receives 5th straight 'Schools to Watch' designation

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — For the 5th consecutive time, a school in Cambria County is being re-designated as a Pennsylvania Don Eichhorn School “Schools to Watch.” A celebration was held Tuesday for Cambria Heights Middle School. Cambria Heights’ first “Schools to Watch” designation was in 2012. Every three years, they get a visit from the “Schools to Watch” team, which identifies strengths and weaknesses to determine if your school is redesignated again.

PA fire company disbands after racial slur allegations

DARBY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — A volunteer fire company in Pennsylvania has disbanded months after it was suspended when another fire company allegedly heard members using racial slurs and disparaging Black residents in a virtual meeting. In a letter to Darby Township commissioners Wednesday, the Briarcliffe Fire Company announced it was shutting down. “The Briarcliffe Fire Company strongly denies that anyone in the township was ever treated differently or discriminated against based upon their race,” the company’s lawyer Robert Ewing wrote in the letter.
