WASHINGTON (TND) — Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky, and Dr. Anthony Fauci clashed during a Wednesday Senate hearing over royalty payments to government scientists from pharmaceutical companies. "We’ve been asking you and you refuse to answer whether anybody on the vaccine committees gets royalties from the pharmaceutical companies. I asked you last time and what was your response? ‘We don’t have to tell you,’" Paul said. "When we get in charge, we're gonna change the rules and you will have to divulge where you get your royalties from, from what companies and if anybody on the committee has a conflict of interest, we are going to learn about it.

Flooding due to mine drainage prompts closure of Franklin Street; DEP investigating

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Franklin Street in Johnstown was closed for several hours Saturday by the Johnstown Fire Department due to flooding. 6 News crews at the scene were told by a fire department official that the flooding was caused by mine drainage. Officials also said the Department of Environmental Protection will be visiting the location to investigate. This is a developing story; we will update as more information becomes available.

Former inmate sues Centre County Prison over 'shameful' conditions, medical treatment

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A former inmate at the Centre County Prison has filed a federal lawsuit claiming the lack of medical treatment and other conditions at the prison are "shameful.” Jessica Tressler says she was an inmate at the prison in April of 2022. She claims despite being in severe pain, she wasn't properly treated at the prison for opiate withdrawal and an infection, and was eventually transferred to a hospital for heart valve surgery.

Moxham community hosts 'Light Up Night'; annual Russell House Christmas this weekend

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Johnstown residents felt the holiday spirit Friday night at the Moxham Light Up Night and parade. The parade began on Russell Avenue and ended at the Russell House, at which time all the lights on Village Street were lit up and live entertainment played for the audience. Organizers with Light Up Night say they wanted to change the perception of Moxham and show the positives the area has to offer.

Woman threatened local magistrate hundreds of times, police say

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Colorado woman is behind bars after she reportedly threatened a local magistrate, as well as her former employer, hundreds of times over a period of several weeks. Jackson Township police say the investigation began in mid-March after they learned that a woman, later identified as 46-year-old Sarah Byrne, had been repeatedly harassing staff members at the office of Magisterial District Judge Mary Ann Zanghi.
